DEBATE
So we are, two and two
Opposite ends of the sword
Sparring, our minds clashing
Note cards becoming rapiers in our hands
“I would argue your second definition.
We must look to the value of the case.”
I watch you, noting the slip of papers
Between perpetually dry hands
The configuration of features
And the soft knotted brow
“My opponent has no warrant
For that contention; QED.”
You parry well
But not well enough for me
High on the chase, the blood hunt
Yearning to win my pride back
“And will the judge kindly consider
The issue of this dropped sub-point.”
And if you will not talk to your huntress
I will force it from you
Then perhaps we can speak mind to mind
Reading each other in the hostile flow of words
“That is non sequitur,
A logical fallacy.”
When you trap me, back against the wall
I sneer and struggle free
To fight you on level ground again
Equal in our cold calculation
“And at this point
I would like to state the voting issues:”
I will give you my all
For I do not deal in pity, but in true intent
We have held our own against sharpened tongues
Stabbed, lashed out, and tried to ruin each other
