HATRED
A dragon of darkness
With fiery eyes
Twisting ‘round hearts
And poisening minds—
Scales of pain
And sharp claws of fear
Biding its time
Til its moment draws near
Burning and boiling
A gathering storm
Nurturing grudges
Til anger takes form—
Tense terror building
Subconscious vibrations
Slithering malice
A black infestation!
Straining it limits!
The pressure of loathing!
The breaking point reached!
For one split second
Frozen—
And then the dam breaks in a violent tide!
Our dragon full grown, it can no longer hide!
Blasting forth roaring at the top of its lungs
Flames flicker, searing, around its forked tongue!
Pain, death and anger in a torrent of red!
Guilt, shame and darkness in a river of dread.
Splattering like blood—what it touches is gone!
Consumed in a furnace that heated too long
Dormant no longer
A halo of fire
Radiates outward,
A sizzling pyre!
Its skeletal structure is lit, and exposed
In one blinding finale—!
And it comes...to a close.
Spends itself slowly
Like a flickering light
The embers die out
Leaving only the night.
And there in the ashes
Nothing is left
But a trail of grief
And a cold
